Honeymoon TR - Day 10

Hello everyone, it is Devon (Dear wife...lol), I have taken over Ryan's trip reports to talk about our last full day in Hawaii. I hope you enjoy!

Our last full day in Hawaii we decided to have another beach day since we didn't have anything planned. Ryan let me sleep in and he ventured out to have breakfast at the hotel. I love breakfast food but I must admit I'm not used to eating breakfast on a daily basis. I know, it is the most important meal of the day, but I like my sleep & since I've hit my 30s I rarely get myself up in time to have it in the morning. So needless to say after almost 10 days of huge meals everyday, I passed. I easily gained 5 pounds this trip. But oh so worth it!

We got dressed & decided to head to Kapalua beach & soak up some rays. That area of Maui is very beautiful. It felt like a nice resort area but without as much people like Kaanapali has. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. I snapped this picture below & sent it to all my work girls. With the time change I knew that it was mid afternoon back in Louisiana & it would give them a little pick me up. What are friends for right...lol!

Ryan absolutely loved paddle boarding @ Wailea beach so he decided to do it again. So he got setup & I got my camera out & lounged on the beach & snapped away. So relaxing. He looked like he was in heaven the whole time, which made me smile. Once he was done we decided to go kayaking. At first I decided I wasn't going to do it but when I realized he wasn't going to do it without me & he already missed out on zip lining because of me (why did I not YouTube those videos sooner, crazy me lol) I decided to do it. Don't get me wrong I like doing water things but the Pacific waters are not what I'm used to & I'm not a strong swimmer so I get nervous. We got the glass bottom boat & I don't know why I was so nervous because I loved it. Suprisingly I had a little more kayaking knowledge than Ryan, we were stroking multiple times on one side. I told him it is not a Pirogue & I was pretty sure we had to switch sides after each stroke. Much easier after that.

Once we were done we decided we would pack up and head back to Lahaina to browse the shops & have lunch. I really loved this beach & decided I would definitely want to stay in that area on our next trip. Here is our last beach pic together of the trip.

Once in Lahaina we decided on Captain Jack's Island Grill. Our best lunch of the trip. It even beat out my Hana hot dog, not by much though. I know a hot dog crazy, but it was so good I can't explain it. Our bellies were full so we browsed a little then decided to nap before our dinner reservations that night. I love me some naps. I'm an accountant back home & just so busy most of the time so I took advantage during this trip. Thankful Ryan let me. Here is a pic of my husband  @ Captain Jack's, it is one of my faves.

We had dinner reservations @ Kai in The Ritz Carlton back in Kapalua. This by far was the best meal of the trip.  We had the best sushi I've ever had and great drinks. It was such a welcome change from burgers, fish & other everyday foods we had been eating. It was a perfect place for our last honeymoon meal. We talked about it all the way back to our hotel. If you haven't tried it, please do.

We decided to have drinks at the bar @ the hotel then off to bed since we were leaving the next morning...boo!!! We really enjoyed our last day in Maui. This trip has been a trip of a lifetime. I got to marry a wonderful man and explore one of his favorite places which has easily become mine as well. I have explained Maui to friends as being such a unique island. One day you can be at the beach, then in the mountains, then in a tropical jungle, or then the country side. I have no doubt we will be back. I know there are tons of things we missed. One day we will hopefully get to do those things.

We love Maui :))

Honeymoon trip report - Day 9

I let the wife sleep in today & went to the tiki terrace for the free buffet breakfast. Today is a designated beach / pool day. I took the car north out of Kaanapali parkway to a little surf shop that I went to last time. I think it's called Maui surf shop but I'm not 100%. The guy that works there is super cool and I wanted to give him the repeat business. So I got snorkel gear & a boogie board then went back to get Devon.

We walked down to black rock and found a spot for our stuff. I snorkeled but not for very long. I still worry about sharks. It's a phobia that I can't tackle that stems from watching Jaws a lot in my childhood. I wanted to jump off of black rock this trip so I set off to do just that. There weren't many people doing it this early (around 8) and I wasn't exactly sure how to get up there. I scaled the rocks, which seemed treacherous enough, and got to the top near the gate at the Sheraton. Then I sat down on the rocks for a few minutes and tried to figure out how to get across. It looked like I would have to climb down to a landing that was further down than I am tall. Which, if I had been certain that's the way you had to go I would have gone, but I wasn't sure and I could just see myself taking a nasty fall so I aborted. I jumped the short fence at the Sheraton. I had to walk all the way around and back down to the beach through the Sheraton. Devon was on the phone with her mom the whole time freaking out because she doesn't know where I went once I climbed up. Opps! She didn't fuss me though.

I noticed the surf was picking up and the waves were breaking a little further out from shore & it looked too fun. I grabbed the boogie board and went at them. It reminded me of when I was at boogie boarding at big beach last time so I only let myself get tossed through the air and off my board twice before I tapped out.

Devon got in the water with me and we each grabbed a side of the board and floated over the big waves for a while. That was the most fun I had on the beach all morning. It was around 10:30 at that point so we headed to the pool to get out of the sun for a while. We sat around reading our books in the shade for a while. I swam some laps to practice my swim stroke. I'm getting better since I took some lessons at home. I've got the timing for my breathing down but Devon says I'm still barreling through the water. There was a Polynesian woman swimming who didn't make a sound as she went so I studied what she was doing. I've got to do a 200 yard pool swim for my first Triathlon in August so I really need to get better. We didn't have the camera this morning so I dont have any pics to show.

We tried to get lunch at the Tiki Grill but it was closed until 4pm. They lose so much business not being open for lunch. Next we went to the little shop in the KBH and I bought a hat that looked pretty silly ok me but it was better than getting burned worse. We set off down the sidewalk headed toward the Hyatt for our 2pm jet skiing. The jet skis were Devon's way of repaying me for the zip line tour which was very cool of her.

We stopped for lunch at Relish burger at the Westin. The burgers were pretty good! But they Ought to be for $17 each.  I had made the comment in Kihei that I wasn't sure how I spent so much money on my first trip because we hadn't spent much. Now I know it was the west side! Everything costs double on the west side. But here I am in my silly hat looking like I've had too much sun.

And Devon not looking like she's had too much sun. #redheadproblems.

We continued on to the Jet Skis and wow! It was a blast! We rode on the same Jet Ski. The water was really rough.  Jet skiing on the gulf coast is better because the water is calm and you can go fast. We kept it at a moderate page and I laughed the whole time because all I could hear behind me while she clung to me for dear life were high pitched squeals and "omg omg omg". I know we ran into at least some 4 ft seas. The nose of the jet ski would go under from time to time which even made me a little nervous. I didn't want to flip it even though I've been to water survival class many times for my job and could have righted the jet ski in short order. It's the same as righting a life raft. After it was over Devon admitted it was fun and we bought the pictures they took of us.

On the way back we stopped at the grotto bar to beat the heat :)

The rest of the day was spent at the KBH pool. We got drinks from the Tiki bar & hot dogs from the Tiki grill. A flower fell on us and she put it behind her ear so I snapped this photo

It was an exciting day. I wish I could have jumped off that rock...but maybe next time.

I promised Devon she could type the last day's trip report under my name so the final one will be authored by her. :)
